Call your state's Bureau of Investigations. (It's the state equivalent to the FBI) I live in Kansas so here it is called the KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigations). That office is who issues P.I. licenses. I know here there is an exam one must pass first. The licensing fee will depend on the amount your state has set it at. But the people in that office are more than happy to answer questions. You could also Google them and more than likely get your questions answered. =)
