What to write in a resume, if I have no experience?

How do you write on resume when you have no job experience?

  • I am a cosmetology student and my school is having a career fair at the end of this month. I have never worked before and I do not know what to write on the resume. What can I write in place of experience?

    If you're a student who doesn't have a lot of traditional work experience you could write up a "skill resume" or "functional resume" where you highlight how your various experiences (e.g. school, sports, activities, volunteering) have helped you gain key job skills. You should be able to find examples of this resume format on-line. If you want to create a traditional resume you could mention any volunteer work or part-time/casual jobs you've done.

i'm sure if you think about it you have some experience whether it's formal or not. think outside the box it reflects creativity. Do'nt go too far off track.

A resume has your name and contact info, schooling (education and diplomas), job experience (if any) and personal interests. If you have no job experience, you might list "None - looking for my first job".

A potential employer isn't going to expect you to have a ton of experience yet. You can still include anything that shows you're a responsible, reliable person and would be a good hire. Things like babysitting and volunteer work count. Also, think about who to ask to be a reference for you; a potential employer will want to talk to people who aren't related to you and who can attest to what kind of worker you'll be.
