when wearing a belt should the belt color match your shirt color or pants color ?

Your belt should be the color of your pants. Unless your wearing blue jeans then you should wear a black or brown belt.

I don't find my belt color to really matter as long as it fits the tone of my specific dress. I find khaki to be my preffered color of belt though I always wear dark grays.

The belt should match the shoes. If a tie is worn it's a good idea to have at least one color in it match or go well with the pants. I always wear "matching metal". The watch, belt buckle, tie clasp, etc should pretty much all be either silver color or gold color. I guess black would work too.
