What is Gaseous green house?

Can mustard be grown in a green house? What are other good plants for a green house?l

  • ok so at church we got mustard seeds, I want to try and plant them, but I live in Northern Ohio... it's pretty cold, so I decieded to build and experiment with an green house. it's small 6x6x8, has piping to water the plantssub surface, 1' of soil off the ground with compost mixed on the top, heated with heat lamps, next I need to find plants to grow. can mustard be grown? how warm should I keep it? what plants can I fully grow in it, not just kick start? how about any other pointers to this project of mine, anything is appreciated thanks!

    yes... & just about any plants that will fit, given all of their other needs are met. Like space, soil type, temperature, humidity, & light. There are gardeners worldwide who use their greenhouses year round as permanent horticultural havens. Mustard is a pretty hardy, durable plant. I don't know its' specific needs, but remember seeing wild fields of it every spring. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the weather's not very extreme, however. Good resources for info on how-to do what you have in mind, Mother Earth News, Whole Earth Catalog, & anything by Rodale Press is reliable, too. I used to read the magazine, 'Organic Gardening & Farming' from cover to cover every month during the '70's & '80's. Lots of good useful info there. Don't hesitate to dig into back issues! How fun! Ya know, it wouldn't hurt to try those mustard seeds. Do some online research regarding their needs-- soil temp, water, sunlight etc. If I had a greenhouse, I'd try growing weed (what? It's *legal* here), and maybe some other herbs such as basil and thyme. Ooh! I'd also try green beans and perhaps cucumbers. Sounds like a blast. There's nothing like digging in the dirt in the middle of winter. Look into ventilation as well
