How would long term disability benefit change if policy has employer paid but is actually paid for by employee?
-
My work benefit policy has employer paying and has the employee, myself, as paying $0. My benefit policy breaks down how much I pay for health insurance, taxes, LTD, etc. and it states I pay (absolutely) $0. My checks stubs each pay period shows I pay $20 LTD or close to $500 a year. I called human resources and the only thing they said was it may be a typo. My work policy has min. $100 or 10% of gross monthly benefit level, whichever is greater/ maxi. $1,000 (combined with other income benefits. I've read online that if the employer paid premium then it can be combined with other income such as social security disability. My employee policy read minimum $100 or 10% of gross monthly benefit level, whichever is greater/ maximum $1,000 (combined with other income benefits). This would pretty much having them paying for nothing for me paying them $500 a year for 10-20 years. I read on a few sites online if employee paid (I did post tax) then the employee would receive full amount of $1,000 a month. I was wondering, since the benefit policy has employer paid and is incorrect and I payed the premium, will I be able to receive the full monthly $1000 or will I only receive $100 or 10%?

Answer:
You need to talk to a tax advisor. You also need to get an answer from HR and/or Payroll as to why you are being charged ... for example, you may not be working enough hours to get the employer-paid benefits so have to pay part/all of the benefit

I can't follow your description, but I think you are asking whether your disability benefit changes based on who paid the premium. The answer is no: the benefit paid is based on the policy, not who paid for it.
