Who decided that corn and other ingredients in dog food are bad, some guy that nobody has never heard of?
-
all my dogs past and my current dog ate dry food with corn, wheat, soy, and whatever else is a no no ingredient and had no ill effects - my dogs that i had in the 50's ate canned dog that was made with horse meat - today we now have to feed our dog like he or she is human or if we don't we are considered a bad owner - did this all start when organic food stores started popping up - i understand it if the dog has allergies, but it has gotten to the point that it doesn't matter if your dog has allergies or not...you have to feed it a certain type of food or going to have a sick dog on your hands - is it all marketing hype and dog owners are getting brainwashed - just wanted to state my thoughts - thank you

Answer:
Frankly, unless you DO have a dog with an allergy, you CAN feed them what you choose, most of this hype IS coming from the companies selling the pricey foods themselves, my dogs eat Pedigree dog food exclusively and all of them never once developed an allergy, but then, PETA WANTS us to treat our pets like humans, now don't they?

Dog food is bad. It was only 1950's they came out w/ it. Otherwise they got the scraps from table. domesticated dogs have been around for 1000's yrs anything to get your $. .

Think of it as if you ate McDonald's every single day of your entire life. Cheap dog food is worse quality than that, just not as greasy. And dogs eat mainly meat. Feeding them as if they're a cow is not good for them. Just because your dogs didn't outwardly suffer (I feel bad for them) doesn't mean that junk food is good for them. And please, on the future if you're not going to treat a dog properly, don't have one. It's ok to give them crap food if you're short on money - but their whole life? That should be considered abuse.

There are some things dogs shouldn't eat, but corn isn't one of them. The big problem with corn, is the difficulty in digesting it. If you care about your animals, you should be them a quality food.

Unlike humans, who are omnivores meaning we can eat plant products or animal products, dogs are carnivores, and are better capable of digesting meat than they are of plant products. It has to do their specific physiological needs. True carnivores such as dogs do much better on a carnivorous diet. Can they live on other things? Yes, but if you care about providing them with the most appropriate food, then a carnivorous diet is the way to go.
