Will a bite from an Indiana wolf spider hurt a baby?

Do wolf spiders use their fangs to climb?

  • So I found an adorable female wolf spider and I let her climb up my arm when she started jumping. I put my other hand out and she jumped to it and started jumping from my fingers and she almost fell and bit me. It wasn't bad, it was a dry bite and didn't actually hurt but left a very faint mark. She didn't act alarmed at all, so I'm wondering if wolf spiders use their fangs to catch their falls?

  • Answer:

interesting I suppose they might but generally spiders only use their fangs for holding and transporting prey. Usually wolf spiders will not inject venom unless they are continually provoked so the most common bite is a "dry" bite and wolf spiders in the US are not considered dangerous to humans, even venomous bites generally only have a bit of swelling and itching related to the bite (though if you are allergic it's best to leave these guys alone) Please be sure when you done playing with your friend you release her back to the "wild" to continue her job of controlling pests :)
