How is the date of Easter determined?

Why is Easter date determined this way?

  • ''The first Sunday after the full moon after the Spring equinox.'' April 5th this year. I just looked into it and that's what it is this year. Why exactly is it determined this way?

  • Answer:

The approximate dates for Easter are outlined in the Bible, and was originally celebrated around the time of the Jewish passover, as that is when the Crucifixion is said to have taken place. In 325 the Council of Nicea decided on a more precise method of calculation, which combined the two methods that were in practice at that time - calculating it based on moon phases and having a specific set date. From that point forward, the date of Easter would be on a day following the first full moon, after the Spring Equinox, though it took quite a bit longer for Sunday to become the generally accepted day across all communities. It is important to note, that though there have been references made to Easter being associated with the Goddess Eostre (primarily due to Bede), it is likely this may have been an error on his part (or at least had no basis in provable fact). Details are rather sketchy on her existence and it is possible that she was simply associated with the dawn, and new beginnings, rather than Spring itself. Also, historically "Eostre-month" was a month long celebration, rather than any one particular day. * http://theinformedpagan.org/2012/04/03/the-origins-of-easter/ *

Because it's based on a pagan holiday that followed natural phases.

Ezekiel 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. The verse goes on to say 25 men facing East towards the sun. Tammuz' lover was Ishtar, Tammuz was a shepherd god killed and rose again on the third day, why because this is sun worship. Happy Ishtar, or East er as the Sun rises. Constantine worshipped Christos Helios a sun god derived from Egyptian belief Tammuz, Dumuzi in Sumerian.

The last supper was supposedly pass over. Ready for a really complicated explanation? Jesus said he will rise after 3 days and 3 nights. We know he died before the sabbath, and the request was to bring him down and bury him before the sabbath. That would mean, for all intensive purposes, and our own calendar, he would die on a Friday, and would have to have been taken down and buried before the next night. Then Sunday morning, there he was. Problem, isn't it? That's not three days and three nights. So... (continued in comments)

Its actually a system the Catholic Church came up with back when they were coming up with dates to celebrate various holidays. I have no idea why it has to be so complicated.
