How do you properly clean a brass mortar and pestle?

Has Anyone else had problems with the Kmart brand mortar and pestle's?

  • I bought one ( since they are so cheap) and it seemed quite good when i took it out of the box. However once i tried to use it, I found that i got mostly stone dust from the mortar and pestle instead of just the ingredient. Is there a step ive missed that somehow makes it so that the mortar and pestle does not grind itself when im trying to grind something else?

you said it yourself it's cheap. wash it completely then rub the inside with a wet thumb. if it feels gritty then it's crap. spend the extra money and buy one from an actual cookware store. marble is usually the best

My mortar & pestle is marble -- very inexpensive and works wonderfully! You can get a good one for about $20. Be sure that the pestle is very heavy with a large rounded end.
