How do i take aloe leaf cuttings?

Will my plant cuttings take root?

  • I recently got a few hibiscus cuttings, which I ordered from overseas. I planted them last night in a mixture of 2:1 perlite to Espoma potting soil. I also put all of them in the same container and made sure the soil was damp before hand, as well as placed a plastic bag over the top to keep the humidity level high. I have them in a lighted environment and it's about 69 degrees inside the house. Even though I did use rooting hormone, I'm really worried because the ends of the cuttings were sealed with rubber cement or something, which I had to take off the rooting end. I didn't have pruning shears so I used scissors and a plastic knife, which knocked of a few leaf buds in the process and did not produce a clean cut. Is it okay if the cuttings are not cut at an even diagonal at the rooting end? I really want them to do well!

I think you have a pretty good chance of success with achieving roots with all that you're doing. The only thing I'd question is what sounded like maybe a not so nice of a clean cut. Can you re-cut without loosing too much stem? If not, just go ahead and try. Leave the bag in place and the soil moist for several weeks. You want a really nice, thick bunch of roots. Good luck!

if you use a single edge razor blade and cut the end at an angle. but you should raise the temp to 80 - 85 degrees F . they will have a better chance to root. the rooting gel was a good idea.
