How to install/extract a font from a .otf file

I've extracted a .otf font from my Kobo Touch. I'd like to install it on Windows, but Windows can't handle it and neither can any of the font editing programmes I've downloaded. I believe that the file contains multibyte characters. I have tried right clicking and choosing install. I've tried font forge, and several other font related applications. I just get varying error messages saying that it's not a valid font file, despite it working on the Kobo. If it's relevant, the font is Gothic MB101. I'm running Windows 7 - what do I need to do to install this font?

I believe http://everythingfonts.com/otf-to-ttf can convert otf to TrueType, which Windows should handle just fine.

Windows 7 should support OpenType fonts. You might try renaming it to a .ttf extension if you don't get the "Install" option when you right click the file.

Well, after renaming or uploading to half a dozen services, I still didn't have any joy. I've come to the conclusion that the file I have is either corrupted or kobo-specific. I did manage to download the font from somewhere else, eventually.
