You're never too old to learn something new. Sure, the younger you are, the more easily your brain will absorb certain information, but that doesn't mean it becomes impossible to learn at a later age. Besides, Spanish is relatively simple and you wouldn't be old even if you were twice that age.

Depends on if you go to school for it, or learn on the streets. I learned Spanish by working with Hispanic co-workers for 22 years, I was a manager and the only white boy, so I had to pick up the language. I've been visiting Mexico for 35 years and for the last 3 years have been living here in San Felipe. Next month moving to Belize, (Caribbean) when you really learn Spanish fluently (Slang also important), with correct pronunciation, is when you live in a Latin country, preferably Mexico because there are quite a few different dialects. Where are you moving ?

Spanish is a relatively easy language to learn (I am still learning it)...every letter is always pronounced the same way,,and every letter is always pronounced (the letter X is the exception to this). I learned mandarin and that was very difficult for me. I began learning Spanish by going to school in Mexico...and after the first lesson I was able to speak complete sentences (such as I want, where is, how much is this,I need......). I'm 65 and still learning it. 23 is young:)

Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn. It has our alphabet, it has only 88,000 words, it has strict rules and even the exceptions to the rules do themselves follow rules. You can expect to speak passable Spanish in 2 years of study. All you then have to do is practice. One useful tip when learning is that if you can learn to imitate the musicality of the language, then you will start to sound like a Spanish speaker much more quickly. And, if you are not already married, the best way to learn any new language is pillow talk. Good luck.

Start with Pimsleur's first 3 courses (90 days total). That will do a great job of giving you the basics and more importantly getting your ear and brain reset to quickly acquire the language once you're there.

No. You will find it harder than a kid. You also need to accept the fact that there is always more to learn, and with almost no exceptions, you will always sound like a foreigner to a native speaker.

I found it much easier to learn Italian in my 40's than I did Spanish starting in 6th grade. I'd count on 9 months at the rate of a single-college course equivalent at a time, three in a row. Faster if you're smart and really work at it.
