How do I get lots of free/cheap porn magazines for an art project?

  • I am working on a very large series of art pieces which incorporate images from porn magazines. (I prefer magazines' print quality to that of what I can find online.) However, I'm having trouble getting enough magazines and don't know how to amass a lot without spending lots of money. Freecycle and Craigslist both forbid porn, though I have gotten a couple stacks from CL. There is no bookstore locally that can help. I am open to any and all hardcore magazines (no Playboy or Penthouse). Any orientation, any fetish is fine, and they need not be recent. I can't afford to pay much for the magazines but could of course pay for shipping.

    Is there any kind of a sex-toy shop nearby you could ask to refer you to a possible source? They may not carry what you're looking for themselves, but people on the staff may informally know of places you could check or people you could write to ("oh, hey, that guy Sid who comes in on Thursdays says he's cleaning out his closet, maybe he'd have something").

If http://www.reddit.com/r/classifieds (see also http://www.reddit.com/r/nofap, maybe contact their moderators?) can't help here then it can't be done. I wouldn't even worry about paying shipping. Post something there and then tweet it around to get people aware that this is a thing you are doing. Get a PO box for this (better than a work address) and be clear that anyone who sends you illegal porn gets reported to the authorities.

Try eBay. I bought a crapload of vintage porn mags on ebay for less than $15 (with shipping) a couple of months ago.

Do they have to be magazines? Once upon a time, a college friend decided he would print off the corpus of pictures he wanted to use (licensing terms be damned). As for the sex-toy shop, if they're anything like most magazine shops, they send back the covers of unsold mags for credit, then toss the rest. Offer a tip (bribe?) and make their job a little easier.
