What are good camping conditions?

Ideas on what to do without a campfire while camping? (due to fire restrictions) what source of light is best?

  • My friends and I are going camping this weekend and the forest service put a ban on campfires due to the dry conditions. We are the type that love to use tents instead of camper trailers. Therefore; We will need a light source so does anyone know if battery lanterns are better than the kind of lanterns that use kerosene and mantels? Do glowsticks really help? If anyone has some advice or suggestions I'd appreciate it!

  • Answer:

Primus lamps are legal even when fire bans are in place, as they are wholly enclosed and don't throw sparks. Solar collector lights are also useful for short periods - they soak up solar power when the sun is shining and then radiate it back, but usually for only a few hours.
