What's the worst advice you've ever received from someone?

What's up with people on Answerbag? haha

  • I like the setup on Answerbag, but I'm finding I don't like a lot of the people on it. I used to be on Yahoo Answers and most of the time the answers I got were helpful and just answered my question. Now, being on Answerbag, I get a lot of sass and very opinionated answers. I just like answers, not opinions. Otherwise, it would be opinionbag lol. I've looked at other people's questions and I see a lot of people being mean to them too. For example, I was answering this one question by a girl who is suffering from depression because her sister and mom just died in a car accident and she is tempted to commit suicide. A lot of the answers were mean and giving her advice on how to kill herself. I have received this type of bullying, it's been more sass. What's the point of this guys? Aren't we here just to ask and answer questions? Not to be pathetic people hiding behind our computer screens attacking people we don't know because of insecurities. I don't know how picking on someone online can honestly make someone feel better about themselves. It's like being a grown adult and picking on a 5 year old and feeling better about themselves lol. I just don't get whats up with people on answerbag? I'm thinking about going back to YahooAnswers

    People have this weird idea that AB is a social site. I have no clue where that came from. It's supposed to be for asking and answering questions, but so many people don't use it for its intended purpose that they think they can just go "look at all the people that do X, X is obviously not wrong." There's also very little oversight on this site... staff pop in randomly and stick someone in the Penalty Box for anything approximating a violation just because they're bored, but they don't scan the site looking for actual violations. Questions can be opinion questions, and they get opinion answers. That's fine. There are a shit ton of retards on this site, and I feel morally obliged to point out their stupidity. Unfortunately, stupid people are unable to process that fact and immediately think I'm the one who's stupid.

In many ways I think you are correct, there are some self righteous mean spirited people on here.But there are also some nice helpful types as well.It is a bit of a mixed bag to be honest. I don`t really think it`s the best place to go looking for help on a really serious issue though.Perhaps an orginization like the Samaritans would be the best place to contact for that. All the best and don`t give up yet.

When you ask a question on here, you have to be prepared for all sorts of answers which are .. in most cases .. opinions. If you aren't prepared for that, you're in the wrong place. No one should be rude .. so, if you feel you're being harassed, flag those posts as "Offensive".

On AB you get all kinds of answers to questions--from the ridiculous to the sublime. You just have to sort out the information and pick the answer you like. That 's why we have Asker's Pick!

How do you know the person asking the question is being serious as well? There's lots of trolling here I agree, but it comes from both sides, not just the answers. Yahoo Answers sucks because it doesn't have the ask, respond, and get further feedback type of setting. Also, you can not say Y.A doesn't have trolling, it does, and more so than here, which is why I left it as well.

You joined AB October 18, 2012 so you are not exactly an Oldtimer. If you don't like us then don't hang out with us. No one should be where he/she is unhappy. We aren't changing. We are who we are. So either get with the program or find someplace where the grass is greener and you like it better. The last thing we need is another AB member badmouthing us. Trust me. We've had more than our share of that. If that's all you have to contribute please don't. If you're an American then Happy Tuesday Election day t6o you. If not, Happy Ordinary Tuesday!. Seriously. Complaining about us is not the way to get to know us. If you're interested in that investigate various neighborhoods. We are diverse Shaq. Good luck! :)
