what do you think of someone being fired for posting a few pictures of their job on their facebook page?
-
now bare in mind 1. the facebook page was under a cartoon character's name, contained no connection to or reference of the job's name or location and was in fact listed as being located in a different city and state. 2. the pictures in question showed a short section of cinderblock walled hallway with purple, pink and white strip painted walls but no windows, no signs, nothing to indicate where the hallway was or even what the business was. 3. the profile in question lists a fictitious place of employment and job type in fact the only reason the employee knew anything about it was because a friend shared one of the pictures to another employee who recognized the new barney and friends paint job and told HR. now, the company has a blogging policy that states you can't post anything that defames or casts the company in a bad light (only someone who has seen the hallway would even know where it was) nothing illegal, obscene or dangerous (again the pictures don't count) and yet on the grounds that they violated the blogging policy they were terminated on the spot, no warnings, no write-up just your fired. for posting a picture of a hallway for god's sake!

Answer:
I think an employee is a fool to do that. I would probably fire an employee immediately. I mentioned this to a friend recently when I saw images of the workplace on Facebook. People have become complete bumbling idiots about posting both comments and pictures on the internet. Just because you hear someone or see someone gives you no right to repeat their works or to capture an image of them and post online. I've told people over and over that when they are applying for a job or for admittance to a University, remove their Facebook account and anything else that might be found about them online. When it comes to me, it is not OK to post anything about me or a picture of me anywhere on the internet. Period.

You just need to be absolutely conscious of your action. This posting of a photo is a sign of attention, which is asking for trouble. Regardless the photo may be good or bad. You are held responsible for the offense it may shed on the employer or its company. Here's a tip for everyone at a professional workplace, make yourself a post-it note that said, "K I P", this acronym stands for, "Keep It Professional!" A workplace is a workplace. Period. I can see how easy you can joke about it but once you do that, there's always people there ready to back-stab or simply report of inappropriate behavior. Once at workplace, keep it professional. Once out of workplace, keep it confidential.

I've been reading much about similar cases. All I can say is be very careful about what you post to social websites.
