why did my adblock come off?

i had adblock on and my netbook was always crashing and going into unresponsive, then this morning something came up on my screen saying that there was something causing my netbook to crash on chrome and gave me something to click on to remove the software so i did and then later i noticed i dont have adblock anymore, why would adblock cause it to crash? thought it was supposed to keep it from crashing, needless to say i wont be putting it back and now its working great so what happened?
