Is the automotive program at this school look solid?

I want to go into the ROTC program for the airforce when i turn 17. I will be graduating from an alternative school though. Will this affect the college I get into or the way the people in the service look at me?

  • Answer:

Those are two different questions. As long as you meet a college's requirements for admission, it really doesn't matter where you went to high school. It's been my experience that your fellow serviceman doesn't care where you went to school. Be a stand-up guy and a STRAC airman/sailor/soldier/coastie/marine and they will accept you just fine. Now, if your alternative school keeps you from going to the 4-year school of your choice, try looking for a community college near you that has an AFROTC affiliation. For example, the community college in my old home town allowed students to enroll in the first two years (non-contract) of ROTC at the local college through an articulation agreement. You went to the college campus for the ROTC classes and the community college for the rest. If you do very well at community college and in the ROTC program it offers, it can help shine up your transfer application to a 4-year school. A letter of recommendation and/or commendation from your ROTC department commander addressed to the college AND to the ROTC detachment commander there can really help grease the skids. ROTC programs do NOT like to let hot prospects go and can sometimes lean on an admissions officer to see things your way.
