Yes, in Cuba they're accepted. Credit/Debit cards on American banks aren't

When I went out of town to train for a job I used them so I did not have to carry so much money around. I think they are great, myself.

Last time I used them was when I moved to Indonesia in 1995. I went to my bank in San Bernardino during the most hectic part of my moving because they were closing for the weekend and I was leaving Sunday night. I only had five minutes to sign about $2,000 worth of traveler's checks. When I took the checks to the bank in Indonesia they wouldn't accept any of them because none of the signatures matched exactly. Then I took them to the American Express office in Jakarta. (I had to make a special trip.) They wouldn't take them either. Finally, I found a businessman who had $2,000 in cash. I signed them over to him and he cashed them at his bank in Los Angeles, about an hour's drive from where I bought the checks. What a hassle. Never again. Use ATM cards. If you can't do that, carry cash in your shoe (I've been robbed, too!)
