My computer monitor doesn't turn on?

Monitor is broken.. doesnt turn on or do nothing when i turn computer on. What are some causes and solutions that you would have?

  I can think of MANY causes, but the solution is almost always the same. There are no user-serviceable parts in there, and a couple that can KILL you if you don't know what you are doing. If you knew what you were doing well enough to avoid possible death then you would already know the answer to this question and never would've asked, so I will assume that YOU cannot repair it yourself. Most computer shops charge more to repair a monitor than it would cost you to get a new one unless you have a really expensive monitor; $200-300 easy. Personally, I have yet to pay for a monitor period. I replaced a freebie 15" CRT with a nice 17" CRT, traded up for a 19" CRT, and now have a free 20" Dell CRT. One possibility that you *might* be able to fix is the video card connection. My monitor won't turn on if I knock my Radeon out of alignment until I re-seat the thing in it's slot. But if that doesn't do the trick, get a new monitor.
