What is the difference between device and instrument?

please tell me what is the difference between equipment, device ,appliance ,apparatus and instrument?

A 'device' is something which achieves some effect or accomplishes something (can be abstract, as in a plot device). An 'appliance' is something that is applied to a task. Often used for kitchen equipment. 'Apparatus' is a thing used while carrying out a process. An 'instrument' is something that either produces something (a musical instrument) or measures something. They are all very similar, and in many cases are interchangeable.
