How to keep socket alive?

Is it advisable to keep laptop connected with power socket 24hrs?

  • I saw my brother and few other people that they dont shut down their PC and laptop even in night. Should I keep on sleep mode or hibernation mode? Pls what is the correct way of keeping Laptop/PC in night.

    You kill your battery if you leave it constantly plugged in. If you never use your battery and only use on mains then take out the battery. If you don't shut down your PC then it's not too much of an issue as the case is large and provided its not in a very hot room will do fine. Laptops and tablets are another issue though. All those components in a small space and little air movement inside mean you need to keep them cool when using them heavily. Laptops tend to die quicker than PC's and it's why you should service them every couple of years to clear out the dust from the fans and check the components. To be honest you should make full use of the powersaving features of any device you have. Have it go into standby if not used for a while to save on battery and heat. Hibernation is good if you want to save a state and have lots of apps and files open. ready to use again.

Mostly harmless to keep it plugged in all the time. Battery is not being charged continuously, or used, so it might as well be sitting on a shelf. If the laptop gets unplugged for short periods, you will find the battery loses a lot of endurance. Disconnect the power and let the battery run way down every so often. Deep cycles will restore much of what is lost.

I just close the lid. But i did notice during a power failure, and the battery died after an hour.

It supposedly runs the battery life down rather quickly. But I still do it. I think the correct way is to shut it down after every use and not to keep it on for long periods.
