Healthcare administration?

Healthcare scandal in Veteran's Administration. Makes sense, doesn't it?

  • The most recent scandal of malfeasance by the obama administration is the doctoring of records to show that things were working fine for veterans when the truth is that there is a backlog of patients and long wait times. To the extent that some veterans have died waiting for admission into the hospitals. Meanwhile, the government clerks who run the hospital are given nice, big bonuses. And, of course all of this information is hidden by the obama administration, firing of whistleblowers, etc. So the question is: Why would you be surprised? Isn't obama about the most anti-veteran politician around? Haven't the democrats bad mouthed the military for the past 10 years? Hasn't obama gutted the military budget to pay for his social justice programs? Obama has never supported the military, doesn't like the people who serve, doesn't like what they do, doesn't agree with the foreign policy that involves them, and surely doesn't want a healthcare program better than and independent of his obamacare. So, doesn't it make sense that neglect and malfeasance will creep into the organization? They might want to look a little deeper to see if the payoffs and kickbacks are there. That is generally the next step in a poorly run governmental organization. And, just wait until obama gets ahold of all (your) healthcare.

  • Answer:

The truth is that the Veterans Administration has been running like this for years. I know someone who works for the Veterans Administration in a small town in Texas. She make appointments for the vets there ahead of time, because the hospital and staff serve a large portion of the state. Then she drives the vets to their appointments. She does the scheduling so they can be seen as soon as possible and there have been no deaths because they didn't get seen. Then I know of another vet in another part of the state that has gone to another vet hospital and was seen within the week. Whatever has been going on in Arizona doesn't mean is going on everywhere. Maybe Texas has better run hospitals than Arizona. I can see why things could happen with hospitals if they have one to serve a large number and there are too many patients, or the person scheduling doesn't do a good job. It may be about management. I think you are making this one problem about the whole Obama Administration, Obamacare, cuts in the military because Obama is ending the wars. You don't like anything about Obama and I doubt that you are even concerned about the vets. You just want to get on a soapbox and spill your anti-Obama speech with every problem that occurs.

Hello ee: The backlog is simply due to the VA NOT being ready for the influx of wounded soldiers from TWO wars. Plus, soldiers are surviving many injuries that would have killed them in the past. It's a bureaucracy that doesn't change what it's been doing for 50 years. It's a problem of civil service rather than the leader or the president. But, you tell a nice story.. excon

Yes, it makes total sense but not for any of the biased b.s. you are putting forth. The backlog in claims and treatment can be attributed to the huge number of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan that has stretched an already underfunded gov't. agency to the tipping point. If the Washington politicians are outraged, they have only themselves to blame for keeping tax cuts to the rich in place (ala Bush/Obama), bailing out Wall Street (ala Bush/Obama), and providing corporate subsidies to giant corporations that makes billions in profit quarterly (ala Congress). That money should be used to take care of returning veterans and their families instead of the fat cats who made billions off the wars. Bush had the gall to cut 350 billion in veteran's benefits back in 2005 during the Iraq war, all the while praising our military publically for political gain. Same as it ever was. If our votes actually meant something, they would take them away. The game is rigged, m'dear!

@ Edith; There's a pretty decent article in the National Journal on the history of the VA's problems, dating back to JFK, if you ever decide to get off your "Obama bad" wagon and read some history, based more on fact than speculation.
