What a wonderful world by louis armstrong?

If Louis Armstrong was still alive today, would he still think to himself "what a wonderful world"?

  • Or would he realise it's not such a wonderful world after all?

  • Answer:

I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom, for me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue, And clouds of white. The bright blessed day, The dark sacred night. And I think to myself, What a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow, So pretty in the sky. Are also on the faces, Of people going by, I see friends shaking hands. Saying, "How do you do?" They're really saying, "I love you". I hear babies cry, I watch them grow, They'll learn much more, Than I'll ever know. And I think to myself, What a wonderful world. Yes, I think to myself, What a wonderful world. Oh yeah.

My guess is that he could still focus on the beauty that does exist. Listen to the lyrics: The things he describes still exist amidst all the other rubble.

There was trouble then and trouble now so I think his attitude would not have changed.

Well, the world wasn't all bright when he released his song, there were already existing problems and issues, but his song was focused on the positive. So, yes I believe he would still see the beauty in our world today.

If you notice the history of this song, it was used as an antidote for the increasingly racially and politically charged climate of everyday life in the US, back in the 1960s. The song was recorded in the US in 1967, but did not sell well, because ABC did not promote it. It did well in Britain though. That was so strange, because Louis Armstrong was already known as one of the best jazz musicians in the US and the rest of the world. At that time, the Vietnam was raging on, hippies protested the war, the pill had been invented (make love not war, so sex was on everybody's mind!), and women were becoming more liberated (they burned their bras!) Most of the music coming out of that time was about making love or about peace.People were more involved in politics. Not like today. People allow politicians to wage war and they root them on! In many ways, the world is better today. We have a black/white president. Black musicians are promoted and they even have their own companies. And we are ending two wars and not going into a new war, at least while Obama is president, and we don't get attacked. I think Louie would still sing that song. Remember the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam"? This song was sung at the end. As long as our planet works for us, it will still be a wonderful world. We just have to get out there and make life better for all.

There are so many good answers here already that point out why he saw a wonderful world. Thanks for those folks! My mother said not long ago, "I wouldn't want to bring a child into the world today. Look at how awful things are...I don't see any hope for the future" That's when I reminded her that had her parents felt that way she wouldn't have had brothers and sisters who were born to her German parents here in the U.S. in the midst of WWII. It is a wonderful world.

I think so. The world is what we focus on. Old people always set around and talk about the 'good old days'. My past was anything but good old days. Let us be happy with the days we have right now. If the world truly got worse with every generation, where the Hell would we be?
