Why wouldn't a company care to see your personal and professional references when interviewing you?

As I understand it, by law employers are very limited in what they can say when questioned about former employees. Hence, the value of calling up a previous employer reference may be minimal.

Some of the references do not carry any weight of the person performance.

They would first want to assess you on their own based on how you present yourself. Potential employers don't normally check references unless they're really interested in you and are making final decisions about a candidate.

I've never checked the references that someone has given me. Though I've been called by other people doing so. I can say anything for any reason and sound perfectly credible... which is one of the reasons I never phone the references. That being said, I have checked with people who were not listed as references...
