Is it ok to ask temporary employees to contribute to parties?

My husband and I own a building.

  • Every Monday night we host lingerie parties there and the lingerie company hosts them for us in an effort to build clientele. We use the air conitioning system for the 2 hrs that we are in there. would it be acceptable to ask lingerie company to go half and half with us on the electricity bill? the response was the boss an wife were ok with it, but his employees did not want to do it becuase they were already paying for food ($50 a time) for the event so they have decided nott o come to the eveents at all. We were merely asking for $40 from each of them. And some of these women bring potential clients for themselves out to OUR parties. Do you feel theyare being mean and ungrateful?

    I think you are expecting too much. Why should they pay for the electric when it is you having the party and making money off of it? Why do you expect them to pay for the food and then give you $40 more? I think you are being greedy.

I don't blame them at all. They're already invited to a party that they're already helping to cater but now they're being charged $40 each at the last minute to come. That's pretty rude to me. I wouldn't go either.
