What is the official witness called?

Some voiced criticism of a witness when he called 911 rather than intervene in a husband/wife stabbing

  • I'm not sure I would have gotten in the middle of a knife fight. What would you have done and how fair is it to criticize the witness.

    A knife is a deadly weapon. What was the witness supposed to do? Get stabbed? Ok, if I was the killer and I am planning on stabbing someone, and another person jumps in the way, the solution is simple, stab the obstructing person, then stab the intended victim. It takes a few seconds longer to do, and the end result of stabbing the victim remains fullfilled. Maybe the witness had a gun or something, but even then, who knows. Maybe the lesson to learn from this is that it's better to not get involved at any rate. Thanks to general idiocy, probably now, if I get stabbed, and there are a dozen people watching it happen, no one will even bother to call the police, or maybe no one will even call anyone until the smell from my decay becomes a nuisance. Yeah, thanks alot.

I wouldn't even know where to begin intervening in a stabbing. I suppose if it was a shooting I could throw myself in front of the bullet or something, but with a knife there's not really enough room in between, and I'm really not brave enough to actually do it anyhow. And I'm terrified of knives. And blood. And I'm not all that crazy about conflict either. Especially conflict against guys with knives who stab people. Calling the cops is definitely a thing I can do, though. Especially if I can do so while simultaneously getting the fuck away from the guy with the knife who stabs people.

Americans are stupid thoughtless animals. I wouldn't have even called 911. I'd have sent the killer flowers and a thank you card after the fact.
