How large are ski/snowboard hoodies?

What do you think about a proposed OK ban on masks and hoodies?

  • FOX reports OK bill would ban hoodies in public. CNN reports OK legislator says it would not. A ban of masks and hoodies wouldn't go over well here in Michigan where on some cold winter days masks are needed. Hoodies are seen here constantly being worn by toddlers to elderly people. I am getting ready to go out and I'm wearing my Red Wings hoodie now. • Answer:

Insane. There are many areas were you need them for cold weather. It's the crazy people that commit crimes NOT the clothes.

"I can't tell you what a "hoodie" is, but I know one when I see one". I actually think it's a terrific idea though. It should show the people that elected this moron what a big mistake they made. Problem is that I don't think that idiot's electorate will realize how big an idiot he really is and start a recall campaign. Perhaps gross stupidity isn't a "recallable" offense. For the record I wear "hoodies" all the time, have since I was knee-high to a duck. Most all the folks I know wear hoodies, or have at some time in their lives. People like utility linemen, athletes, doctors, lawyers, garbage collectors, auto mechanics . . .

Have fun defining a hoodie. My hi-viz cycling jacket, and several other heavy weather coats I have, has a hood hidden in the collar. Now get a definition of hoodie that includes the "bad" sort of hoodie and not this. And I, 60 years old, always been employed, higher rate tax payer, sometimes wear a hoodie.

The CNN link is quite revealing. It states that, under the proposed law, the wearing of concealing garb would only be illegal during the commission of a crime. It states there are legitimate exceptions, such as for costumes or "weather protection." It states the penalty for violating this law will be up to $500. So, if I rob a bank and wear a mask, I'm not only facing 20 years in jail and a fine in tens of thousands of dollars, but Oklahoma will hit me up for AN ADDITIONAL $500. Wow, what a deterrent! (note: that was sarcasm). There are two explanations for this proposal that make the most sense to me: 1) Stupidity -- Rep. Barrington can't think of something useful to propose, so he's floating this idea to make it look like he's actually doing his job. 2) Authoritarian f***tardery -- This law would give prosecutors an extra discretionary hammer to use against the poor/urban/ethnic. Smoke a joint in public? $100 fine. Smoke a joint in public while wearing a "hoodie" on warmish late-winter day, that's $100 + $500 for "concealing your identity during the commission of a crime."

This is a ridiculous idea! Hoodies don't kill people. Where is the comparison to "Guns Don't Kill People"", People Kill People"? Next they will burkas Muslim women wear! What about blue hair?

Can't work, and I will think the ACLU will be involved if they try it.

Maybe we could ban sunglasses to. Idiots!

I'd think that lawmakers have no idea why people commit crimes so they try to do something about things that LOOK like they could commit crimes. People don't want to buckle down and do what's needed to eliminate crime, so they pass token laws like these. To have a real effect on crime poverty must be eliminated, and the mentally ill must be treated. Nobody wants to do either of those.

"The bill is not designed to ban hoodies, but to prevent the wearing of masks or disguises in the commission of a crime," Barrington said in a statement. The measure provides a number of exceptions, including religious garments, Halloween celebrations, parades, weather protection and other circumstances. Because hooded garments, or hoodies, are often worn as weather protection and not for the purposes of intentional concealment, it is unlikely they would be considered a disguise under the bill, he said in an email." straight out of your link. and as far as banning them from wearing them in stores and such....i completely agree....not like its so cold in the store you have to be in disguise.....if you wear it indoors your trying to conceal your identity for a reason...hoodies or masks. anyone else bother to read the article or just take your word for it?

Clothes do not help people decide whether they're going to commit a crime or not.
