  I have had rats for a few years now, I absolutely love them. I've never had a rat who would come when called but I have had several who would come to me on their own and one who always knew when I was looking for her. If I walked into a room she would come right up to me, she was so sweet. I think your best bet is to try and get your rat to be that tame, so you never really have to call them. Make sure that you handle them daily, from the time they are just babies. It's also good to get a rat that has good bloodlines, because a lot of it is genetic.
