What is the role of the responding variable in a controlled experiment?

Researchers want to determine the best temperature for storing batteries Describe a possible experiment and list the variables to be controlled What is the manipulated and responding variable?

  • Answer:

Do several sets of trials for each different set of possible conditions. You need to have temperature, time, battery type. I am guessing you would just take measurements using a voltmeter(Joules/Coulomb) or ammeter (Coloumb/sec) to measure how much voltage/current the battery releases and compare it to the original voltage, to see how well charged the battery is, from its original state, and do this at regular time intervals. There are lithium batteries, alkaline, NiCd, D sized, C sized, AAA ... Likely, they all don't work the same. Do one set of batteries at one temperature, another set at another temp, another at another, etc.. Make charts from each different set of possible conditions, of the batteries. Make conclusions from the results by seeing correlations and connecting things logically. For ex: as the temperature went down, the batteries better preserved electrical energy.
