How do I update the firmware on my PSP?

How do you uprade psp firmware to 3.52 m33-4 I put the file into UPDATE in GAME but when i go to the memory stick icon on the psp it says corrupt data. How do i upgrade?

  I believe that you have an official firmware. Most probably, applications wont work at all in an official firmware. But it's nothing to panic. You'll first have to downgrade your PSP from the present level to the below level (eg:- Downgrading from 3.52 to 2.0). After you install a custom firmware you can open up applications and even update hacked softwares.
