Mobile download of google maps?

If I were to download Google Maps (all of it) for offline use how much data would be consumed?

  • Inclusive of Google Earth and street view.

  • Answer:

No idea, but http://Maps.me packs the whole world into under 10GB, from OpenStreetMap data. Obviously, it can be compressed better if no immediate access is required.

Google hasn't disclosed any info about Google Earth's present database size! But the most recent update on that was on 2012 which goes as follows : Combining satellite, aerial and street level imagery, Google Maps has over 20 petabytes of data, which is equal to approximately 21 million gigabytes, or around 20,500 terabytes. Additional Interesting Information :)          The size would keep increasing at a high rate only because the Street View team has been constantly taking photos with their Street View camera systems which has 15 lenses and can produce photos at about 65 megapixel resolution. I can't say about Google Maps, but Garmin Europe has 3.46GB, Europe has a pretty dense highway system so I will assume the whole world is just as dense. (It will give us an upper bound) Europe has about 1/15 of earth land, so a map as complete as Garmin Europe for the whole world would have about 50GB But probably this number is a lot smaller, more close to 15GB for the real world (All Saara desert and Amazon forest would probably fit in less then 1MB) But thats considering only roads, for the satellite pictures, well then we are talking in terabytes, lots of then

You can save the places on maps and it won’t consume more than 100kb i guess. You can save your places (maps) so that you can use those when you don’t have the internet.1) Open the Google Maps app on your android device. Please, not that for saving the maps, you obviously need an internet connection right now. 2) Navigate to the location or area you want to save for later offline use. 3) Now just swipe up from the area section of maps. (e.g In this example swipe up ” Bhubaneswar” ).There will be three options Save , share, and download. If you want to save for offline view just click on save and the map will be ready for offline view. 4) Done!!! now you can view your map without internet connectionSource: http://rootmygalaxy.net/use-google-maps-offline-android/
