Cars in India: Which are the best hatchbacks to buy in India under 6 lakh?

I read all the answers and would agree with most of them.  I don't buy a small car coz I'm a rally driver and a professional test driver. My requirement is of a sedan and a real SUV coz I'm a traveler as well. I would suggest you to buy either of these brands. TATA Ford Nissan I would disapprove and reject to buy or even suggest Maruti Suzuki brand. This is bought by those who follow the herd. This brand has taken away most lives in the car accidents in India coz of their pathetic and unsafe designs.  Never mind the auxiliary safety features like air bags and the seat belts. I won't also suggest Datsun Go for the lack of the primary safety features. TATA is an excellent product. They have finally shifted to a new fluidic design parameter with the new car. One should not have only the mileage and resale value as a deciding factor. The best selling car might fetch one 15 to 20% more money but it involves greater risk. I don't agree with the popular USP line of wider service network. Cars,  these days don't require much attention. They travel foe thousands of kilometers without any service requirement. The cars that I've agreed upon and suggested, have the basic and primary safety feature that can save one's life in the event of a headon Collison. Tata offers greater space and finer features that only come with much expensive luxury brands.

This range is sufficient to buy a car which meets your requirement. In this range you have choices like the mahindra Kuv1OO, Next Gen Ford Figo, Swift, Hyundai's Grand i10, Tata's Bolt, Toyota Etios Liva. In the KUV1OO, the engine is not refine like in other options and the tyre of the hatch are small. The Next gen Figo is a complete package loaded car. Ford cars is known for there driving experience. Toyota is known for its reliable cars and low maintenance cost therefore makingthe etiis Liva a good option too. I have swift, next gen figo, grand i10 in hatch segment and i would really like to say that figo is the best in class.

Maruti Ritz ZXI. Loaded with a great engine and good safety features. It was around 5.95L around 2014 December in Hyderabad.

My advise would be just go and get a test drive of tata motors zest petrol as well as diesel variant .Petrol engine is 1.2 revotron technology developed in house by tata motors . It is a turbo charged engine and the best part is it comes with three driving mode option eco , city & sports so u can switch as per your driving requirments . Roughly city average is around 15 kmpl and it also depends upon driving condition that is how much time your stuck in traffic or bumper to bumper driving in peak hours . Secondly the pricing is jus too good in less than 6 lac you are getting a sedan car with 1 lac km warranty or else shed some more and get a middle variant xm for around 6.5 lac which is i guess full loaded .And if you are looking for diesel car than take a test drive of zest diesel it is the best engine offered in its class and pricing for base variant is 6.5 lac on road . Tata has done very well with the product regarding pricing , styling of vehicle and features in middle variants .So in my opinion jus go and test drive and give it a try

I have driven the options you have listed. And I have owned a Nissan Micra from 2010 to 2014. The newer model is a better packaged one too. So I would definitely suggest you to go with the Micra.BUT - do find out how your good/bad local Nissan service center is. My service center was very good due to which owning the car was a breeze.

Consider Maruti Suzuki Baleno Petrol, Could be marginally higher than 6 lakh, but more than justifies the price tag.
