Answer:
The Indian Academy of Sciences' Summer Fellowship (http://eduinfo.asia/2014/09/indian-academy-of-sciences-summer-internships/) is the best way to get an internship at IISc Bangalore as Snehal and Soham mentioned. Apart from the IAS Summer Fellowship, there is another summer internship at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, IISc: http://www.cense.iisc.ernet.in/outreach/summer_programs.htm I am in no way related to EEE so can't say that it would match your research interest. Chemical Engineering students can apply for their department's internship: http://chemeng.iisc.ernet.in/chemeweb/internship.htm PS: I would suggest you to follow my blog EduInfo which is an internship aggregator. Also check some other EEE internships like IIT Bombay Research Internship Awards: http://eduinfo.asia/tag/electronics-engineering/ Many more internships will come in next 2-3 months. Indian Academy of sciences http://www.ias.ac.in/ hosts a summer internship program every year. Fill up the details there and select professors of your choice from IITS/IISc and few other institutes. Also visit the website of the concerned department and see for summer programs.

Every year the Indian Academy Of Sciences organizes a two-month long summer fellowship programme for teachers and students all across the country. You have an option of choosing your place of fellowship, your branch of research and even the professors you would like to work with. IISc Bangalore is one of the many institutions that hosts the summer fellows. The selection procedure for an IAS fellowship involves a write-up suggesting a research idea you would want to work on. A higher GPA is an added advantage. You can visit the following link for more information: http://web-japps.ias.ac.in:8080/fellowship2015/application_instructions.jsp Alternatively, you can also mail the professors at IISc Bangalore and they might just call you to work with them if they have the bandwidth to do so and if your profile impresses them. Hope that helps and all the best!

Thanks for the A2A ! The best way to get an internship in IISc Bangalore is by getting selected for their summer internship programme which is conducted in collaboration with three major research institutes of India. For this year, the last date of application was November 30, 2014. You can keep yourself updated with other internships by creating a free account on http://internshaala.com . It's , in my opinion, the best and the most organized forum for finding an internship. There's another way to get yourself an internship in IISc and that is by direct emailing. I had tried it for this December and gotten lucky. I later decided to not go as I had other better plans. The problem with direct emailing is that most of the professors encourage the summer fellowship programme. One of the professors had written to me as a reply to my winter internship application as I should apply in Summer Fellowship because it promises accommodation and stipend which can take care of your expenses. IISc professors have A LOT of internship applications. A LOT. I had written emails in the month of October and many professors had already hired interns. So, that's one more deterrent. I just looked at the number of replies I had recieved telling me that they have already appointed interns : 6. Yes, by October 18 , 6 professors had already appointed interns for December. And one of the professors was quite kind to inform me that Summer Fellowship is a way productive and better option than December. Because, let's face it, Research internships require a lot of time. By the time you get acquainted with the lap and proceedings, 3 weeks will be over. I am copy-pasting one of the responses. Dear Dania Faruqui, If you are not particular about internship in December, but are flexible about the dates I would suggest that you apply for the Science Academy Summer Fellowship (SRFP-2015; http://web-japps.ias.ac.in:8080/fellowship2015/application_instructions.jsp). The advantage of the fellowship is that you get to choose the place at which you wish to work, they provide a stipend and, more important, take care of your accommodation. The last is quite important in a city like Bangalore. Good luck! And let me copy-paste one of the numerous replies I got: Dear Dania Faruqui, Good to know of your interest in doing a project in our laboratory. But, there is hardly any space in the laboratory since I have already accepted several students in the recent past. I wish you success in getting a position elsewhere. Also, the kind of courses you opt for in the semester may not be suitable for the kind of project you wish to work on. Sigh! I also got that as a reply. Landing an internship through emails is a grueling task. Also, there is no assurance of the fruition of your travails. Dear Dania, Thank you for your mail. Your background is not appropriate for an internship in our laboratory. Best wishes, Also, I am not sure if all the professors stay for the whole of summer in IISc. One of the professors also replied this: Hello Dania, Thanks for your email and for your interest in working in my group as a winter intern. However, I'm unable to take on any interns during this winter break as I won't be in IISc. I hope some other group is able to accommodate you. Therefore, the best way is try and secure a place through the Summer Fellowship programme. One of my seniors interned in IISc after her third year. A few key points: The SOP counts a lot. Try and convince the best you can that you absolutely love that research area. The recommendation letter format offered by IISc has the optional column for sending the key publication of the professor who is giving you the LOR. Start with the application in advance and coax your professor to give him the key publications of his research duly signed and attested. Also, please remember as a thumb rule, CGPA matters a lot. Work hard and score the best you can. Ensure that you use a good courier service for sending the papers required. Track the documents. You may have an excellent profile and write-up, but if they don't reach the destination, it's futile. Also, if you're majorly interested in compressed sampling and the research institute is a secondary factor, apply for international internships like DAAD, MITACS, SN BOSE and Charpak France. I asked my chums from EEE and seniors about this area and they enlightened me that there are foreign universities who are involved in extensive research on this topic. The deadline for MITACS and DAAD is over. Apply for Charpak France if you feel like. If you need help with DAAD applications, let me know. I will try and help as this year in Summer 2014 , two of my seniors had gone to Germany under DAAD. Hope this helped. Here's wishing you a fantastic career !

Apart from all the answers, you can try this one also. You can apply for INAE fellowship(http://inae.in/mentoring-of-engineering-students-by-inae-fellows/ ). Before applying, you need to have some mentor agreeing for working with you. Most of the IISc profs are member of INAE. So you need to mail the prof asking about the internship opportunity under him/her under this fellowship. The benefit is that the chances for getting a positive reply increases a lot because all the stipend will be provided by the academy. Even if the prof has taken interns and his/her lab is full then also you may get a chance through this fellowship(same happened to me). The selection process of this fellowship is not that tough as compared to IAS fellowship(SRFP) because this one is not published publicly and very less people know about this fellowship.Hope it helps.

In case you are interested in Nanotechnology, you can visit Centre for Nano Science and Engineering at IISc Bangalore http://www.cense.iisc.ernet.in/summerprog/ .Every year, we host around 2-3 undergraduates in each lab. I would definitely recommend this, in case you are looking for research work. Once you visit this place, you would be motivated and dazzled by the arcade of technology right at your doorstep. Current research topics include, but are not limited to Nanoelectronics, MEMS/NEMS, Nanomaterials and devices, Nanophotonics, Microfluidics, Nano-biotechnology, Solar cells and computational nano-engineering. Centre for Nano Science and Engineering is countryâs premier research department in nanotechnology. It is the home to one of the best nanofabrication and nanocharacterization facilities in the world. The centre offers Ph.D. and M.Tech programs in a wide range of areas, and has close interactions with the industry.

I have found a list of internship opportunities at IISC, Bangalore on http://studymech.xyz/blog/technology/Internship-Guide-StudyMech.htmlIISc Bangalore offers Summer research project with a faculty member for engineering students. The interns are provided monthly stipend, mentoring by the faculty and world class research facilities. You can follow the application procedure given in the respective links below. 1) http://www.csa.iisc.ernet.in/people/people-otheropenpositions.php2) http://www.cense.iisc.ernet.in/outreach/summer_programs.htm3) http://chemeng.iisc.ernet.in/chemeweb/internship.htm4) http://www.mecheng.iisc.ernet.in/~summer/5) http://www.aero.iisc.ernet.in/page/people-06) http://kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/main/index.htmPlease check following for more details :http://qadsquad.com/Internship-Guide-QadSquad.htmlHope this helps you good luck with your internship search..

I was an Intern at CeNSE IISc, the pervious summer. Apply for the internship which is listed in their website and depending on your academics, college and area if interest, u may be selected. They will usually select around 15 students. And since your area of interest is DSP, u have a very good chance of being selected.

Academy of Science Fellowship is a pretty good way to have that but it is extremely precious opportunity to get internship in IISc from Non-IIT or Non-NIT/IIIT/IIEST/JU/UoH etc. background with approx. 8.5 CGPA. It is then also possible if you work under some other professor in some other eminent college first , and most likely if you already have a seminar/published journal paper already. Then it becomes quite easier to work under any prof from IISc whose area of expertise/interest overlaps with yours and your related work.

People have already mentioned IAS and mailing for direct entry. I would suggest that you mail for direct entry and rely less on IAS. Although this might vary from case to case, the IAS selection procedure seemed fairly arbitrary. I have examples of people with good publications not getting selected. However, one thing that has worked for someone I know is to directly apply to someone and tell them that you are also applying through IAS to them. They might immediately look at your profile and state that they would take you when your IAS application comes through. Good luck! Edit 1: I have since spoken to a few of my profs (Mat Engg, IISc) and all of them say that they are inundated by mails asking for internships. Mostly such mails are ignored. However, if you make sure that your profile is attractive enough, the mail is well written with the CV in the body (not attached) and you actually took the time to look at the prof's work, basically proving that you value the time she gives to you, you should get a reply. One other thing that works is if a Prof you know has a contact with an IISc Prof. Ask him if he would write on your behalf. Works very well.
