The President of Belarus, a close ally of Russia claims that Ukraine's former president Yanukovich financed far-right group the Right Sector to split support of his main rivals. How does this change the political calculus in Ukraine?
-
Previously, the Right Sector was suspected of foreign backing, supporting fascism, scheming to kill Russian speakers, and so on. But funding by the Russian-speaking Ukraine's former president undermines all those claims. The president of Belorussia squarely blames Yanukovich (and the corruption he engendered) for everything that happened. Seems he was stupid enough to depose himself. So, why blame Ukraine's current authorities who stepped in to save the country and are desperately trying to hold democratic elections?
-
Answer:
Russian authorities have long been trying to distance themselves from the rebels. Obviously their close ally Lukashenko supports this line and blames former Ukrainian president, who is percieved as being supported by the insurgents.

The current UKR government was placed into power by the EU and US to protect the financial power of the West. BRICS was and is becoming a threat to US dominance, so, the EU/US contrived a coup de tat (not an election) to remove the elected government of UKR that supported becoming free of EU/US dominance and replace it with one that was more malleable. Also, such generated the potential for using force to hamper Russia's growth. Historically, the US has supported freedom and elections, but, it has not done so in regard to UKR and new Russia (east UKR) -- why? It appears that the current US administration is controlled by monied powers who have no concern for the US or for the lives of ordinary people.
