Should have France banned the Burqa or not?
-
-
Answer:
That is for the French to say. This was a debated issue in France, with the feminists and some human right advocates stating that it was debasing for women, and some Muslim believers on the other side arguing that it was infringing on freedom of religion. Most French - including the majority of Muslims and of the foreign-born population - say it is important to live in a secular state and that they are appreciate that situation. The widespread opinion is that faith is a personal matter, and that it should be kept into the private sphere and not aggressively displayed, whatever the religion. Hence the Burqa and the Niqab were banned, while other veils (al-Shamira, Shayla, etc...) are perfectly accepted.
