How to get government jobs after finishing engineering in ECE?

What are the Government jobs possible in Computer Engineering field in India?

  • I am doing B.Tech from a NIT, I want to know about government jobs that I can get in India in Computer Science field?

  • Answer:

You have a number of options in this regard. The topmost jobs you can apply for are ISRO and DRDO. Yearly they conduct examinations followed by interview. Currently, DRDO has stopped recruiting through SET(Scientist Entry Test). I hope they would restart the process soon. You can keep checking employment news portals around march april when they put up the advertisement. There are also other options like CDAC, HAL, NIC etc. Even these public sectors firm offer good pay and privileges.

There are lot of options available to BE/BTECH CS grads most commonly in nationalised banks, PSUs and organisations under direct control of central government of India. Believe me there are lot of opening in these organisations. But other point to be noted is that there are not much openings for freshers and when there are, competition is quite high because students from all over the india apply to these positions. To apply to these positions you need good academic record, and mostly what happens if the openings are not restricted to BE/BTECH passouts then other CS grads (like BCS, Bsc etc) get qualified to apply and you are not... My advice to you would be to start your career in private sector and side by side apply to govt. jobs. As you add years of experience to your resume, you can qualify for more positions. Basic qualification to apply is that you must bachelors degree (and in most cases) with at least first class in final year. Selection process includes nationwide written test and so on... The best source of getting info on job openings present in govt and PSU's is rojgar samchar (hindi) or Employment news (English) news papers which is published weekly. This paper contains most recent info on such openings. You can get this newpaper in any good paper stall, if paper stall near you does not keep this paper then you will get this surely on paper stalls present in railway stations. Other sources include http://naukri.com, google for sarkari jobs and you will get lots of websites with all the info. The biggest advantage of govt jobs is job security (recession in US would not cut your job here), work-life balance and if you get into some of the premium govt organisation such ISRO, DRDO etc then good exposure to latest technologies as well. Target for nav ratna companies, best of luck.

You can go for PSU. They are having very small opening and competition will also be stiff. Apart from that, there are IT officer / Specialist Officer posts in all banks. You have to clear IBPS SO exam and couple of interviews.

Yes, Many government organizations require computer programmers for which they float vacancies based on requirement. Delhi metro had floated some vacancies last summer. Usually these departments just raise a notification on their websites. You need to be actively searching for these vacancies.  The procedure is usually a written test followed by interview of top students from the written test.
