Given your analogy. Does a student who comes first in school examination every time take rest for a month or a two as he stood first a lot of times. No,It doesn't happen in most cases. As you tagged SRK , He has his own short term goals like not losing in stardom to fellow actors, beating Dhoom 3 records, and doing some good work.(Though I think 3rd one is not on his mind,first two are). But these are short term goals which are not at all necessary, but you need to do something to keep life moving.Farmers work is farming, actors work is acting , business-man's work is doing business. In broader terms they are doing their work and its just that they are doing it with dedication and sincerity so they achieving greater heights and getting more successful in their respective fields. Life is all about living and you just need a way to live. To cut it short : 1. Sincerity and dedication towards the work. 2. To achieve their short terms goals.

You need to understand that success isn't just about name, fame, money, and possessing all luxuries; so is the case with crooks and goons as well. It's not a commodity to compare on capital/monetary scale. One reason for this vision may be because the grass is always greener on the other side. The answer is what looks everything to you from outside may not be the definition of everything in that persons' list. To them a constant journey to be at the acme of success matters most than being successful at any one point of time in life. It's like undergoing metamorphosis. To stop at any one point on presuming success would be akin to blossom into a flower from a bud. Only to fall down and get replaced with new bud. Once one get name and fame one have to work harder to save what they have earned ,name and fame wont last long unless there is something special in him.         you might have observed famous people ,whatever they do they make news if they do something wrong it imprints a bad impression ,that means they lose everything they have earned , they may become more famous but he will ne respected less.          Its like climbing a mountain there are only 2 options climb up or fall down .Its very hard to stay at the top it needs lots and lots of hardwork or else he has only an option ie.all the way down...
