Being a computer engineer, how do I take care of my eyes? One eye has +1.5 and the other has +2.5 already.

I just started working in a company as a computer engineer. I already have reduced vision and now i will have to sit in front of computer the whole day? How do I prevent my eyesight from decreasing further. I am currently using anti-glare layer on my glasses for the protection. What else can I do?

Answer:
Your spectacle degrees ie hyperopia of +1.5 and +2.5 are a pre-existing state of your eyes and if you are still young ie less than about 30 or so, your real hyperopia could be even higher. To know the real hyperopia (especially kids or prior to LASIK) we will use eyedrops to relax the focusing muscles of the eye (ciliary muscles). Hyperopia may make prolonged near work tiring, and when the ciliary muscles get tired and don't focus so well you may find your vision becoming blurred, especially near things. However, prolonged near work or looking at the computer too much will not harm your eye or make your eyesight worse. It can make your eyes tired and drier, but more frequent breaks and sometimes artificial tears will help. Ultimately (again depending on age and your symptoms) you might need to get some glasses for near work. This will help near focus and you don't have to strain the ciliary muscles (and facial muscles) so much, so you will be able to do near work for longer periods of time comfortably. As you get into your mid to late forties and the focusing power of your eyes get less (a natural process that happens to everybody), you will feel even distance vision getting blurred with hyperopia of +1.5 and +2.5D. At such a time, progressive lens glasses would be helpful.

Working distance from the monitor is important. Make sure your monitor is no closer than the distance from the bridge of your nose to your extended arm with fingertips extended. Follow the 20-20-20 rule; every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break and look at distances greater than 20 feet away, relaxing your eyes. Your monitor should be slightly "down", so your eyes aren't constantly looking straight ahead or up; this is a more relaxed position

These are some things you can do to stop further damage to your eyes : 1)Use anti-glare screen on your laptop screen. 2)Use LED instead of cfl (cfl emit more uv rays than led's) 3)Take break every 15 minutes by focusing at a far away object for one or two minutes. 4)Improve your http://diet.It should include all nutrients.

Anti-glare layer is good and common.Try the possibility of putting same type of layer on your monitor. For Every 20 mins of your work, take a break and move from seat.Try to see any distant object for 20-30 seconds. (try to see the greener nature)Try this 2-3 times. It is some time of exercise for eyes. Wash your eyes after this with cool water. If there is any itching, eye, head muscle pain use drops suggested by your opthamalagist.(like softdrops,I-DEW DS,Refresh tears) Hope this helps. P.S: I am Not a Computer Engineer.
