Is the present discourse on the issue of rape in India misdirected?

  • Since last December, I have been watching News Channel and they do not fail to make me gloomy every single day. Rape is just one part of it. What's the core of irritation and sadness is the Journalism ( so called Fourth Pillar of Democracy) and the way it is being carried out on the matter. I want this not to be a question answer thing but a serious, honest and "Politically Incorrect" (that's where we generally miss out the most) discussion. Let's talk of recent events which eventually made me put this up (I am just putting out some counter points which I believe should be brooded over too) . Role of Police: 1)Lot of agitations happened in front of police stations after the a 5 year old girl was raped. Recently a few police officers have been suspended too, thanks to the frigging media. Did they media take into cognizance the act of the girl before she was slapped by a "Barbaric" police officer? I want to ask the erudite females out there, what would you do if I harangued you and started pulling out your badge from your uniform? Will I be cajoled or will I be considered another Barbaric Sex-Monger who assaulted a police officer? 2) The same prime time journalist (God save us from this Knows-It-All personalities) discuss police reforms one night and discuss how hateful the people in Police force are the next. 3) Do we expect police to be present in front of every house and take into cognizance if a girl is being kept hostage and is being abused? Do we want a police guard for every single one of us? Was the police officer who badge she was trying to rip off the culprit? Feminism: 1) The idea of feminism put out by the elites of India originates from the West ( for a proper and exhaustive treatment on this Issue you refer to books, lectures and blogs of Shri ). The treatment of the idea of these so called feminists has hardly done us any good. The people who fight for gender equality (or female supremacy, I am not really sure at the moment) also tweet like this: another example of the POV of elites: https://twitter.com/reach_alak/status/267918535706165248/photo/1 Yet another example: http://www.scribd.com/doc/55537715/Porn-Article-by-Sagarika-Ghose As a matter of fact, the similar ideas were also discussed on Quora:  I also remember a TV clipping from a news channel where a girl protesting on the streets of Delhi for justice to Nirbhaya, telling the reporter that if we keep on going like this, then how will become like America!!!! Really!!! Do you want the sexual crime to be like that of the west!!! The point is, one can easily make out a mental divide and a chasm in ideologies where there are people, who claim that one does not have the right to say anything about me even if I roam nude and there are people who are asking why Indian woman wear jeans: So if the stupid guys are at fault for not moving ahead, the erudite ones are equally at fault for not making a conscious attempt at bridging the gap and bringing everyone on the same page. But the thing is, these elites will never do that because America gives them the right ideas and formulating a original Indian solution is averse to their borrowed ideology and lifestyle. 2) Woman are holier than thou: In yet another Quora discussion a man was telling his sad story () about how he was harassed because of some woman and the initial response from the feminists was, we should listen to the other side of the story". Shall I use the same logic when a woman is raped!!! The news channels have a favourite statement: Ghar ki betiyaan kya raaton mein jahaan chaahe wahaan jaa na payengi? I wanna ask them...Kya ghar ke bete jab chaahe ghuumte hain kya? Kya gharwale beton ke raat mein nikalne par rok nahin lagte? If thieves scoundrels and rapists roam, well...so do the prostitutes. Why are there agitations only when a female kid is sexually abused. Is it presumed that if a boy is sexually abused then the life for him is going to be all hunky dory?? Why no procession on the roads of delhi for this https://twitter.com/SushmaSwarajbjp/status/325544818761682944 Laws: The holier than thou brings me to a few holes in the las that I saw: 1) The major area of Indian laws that I could find dealing with sexual crimes are Sections 375, 376, 377 of the IPC. As a victim man is mention just once in Section 377 and that too is not in the category of Rape. The legal definition of rape itself makes it a crime by men against women. Perception is one thing but the law too!! I myself have read 4-5 distinct case where boys have been raped by woman (once read of gang rape too!!) 2) The dowry act: I have my reservations once it comes to this act too!! My uncle is a district judge and me and him sat together for 3 continuous days to find out how many cases filed in the district he is posted were actually right. We found that 73% of the cases were rejected and the accused and the family of the accused were acquitted!! Is this not the most effective tool of extortion and torture!!!! Media: 1) I have so many issues here that I don't even want to get started. It seems that they are hell bound to report every single rape case in the country!!! In my opinion rather than mobilizing people against the issue they are antagonising them or at least making them indifferent. Rape will turn into something like Kashmir where we all know everything but no one seems to care. 2) Not one discussion was about the moral fabric of the society. Every other talk is on how bad our police is, how bad the administration is (the one's hosting the discussions are the ones who never leave their A/C rooms and offices) but is far away from the ground realities 3) lack of holistic view on the issue. One day we talk of callousness of the Police, the very next day we talk of how strained the police is and how it badly needs reforms. 4) The same media also got away with petty explanations for taping the Assam incident in the name of creative evidence. Arun Shourie's talk on public discourse can also help us understand the problems with public discourse which can be found here: National Women For Women: The only contribution they seem to be making is blaming the police and the government. Why have they not pushed for necessary self defence training for women? I am an IT guy and I fought and made it happen for every woman in my office. Why do they not propel awareness campaigns? Why do they not include more men in the movement of woman security? Having said so much I throw it to you Quorans to put forth your thoughts.

Hello  friends here i found a totaly novel approach toward this topic. Plz  read and share as its understaing may help in reducing many other cases. Rape: The Factors Behind Source: http://factincept.com/rape-factors-behind.htm               http://factincept.com/rape-psychology-india.htm Rape  is one of the most heinous crimes defined in criminal law (of every  country), in which a person is assaulted sexually by one or more person.  The act can be done by force or by abuse of authority with a less  capable person, whether that person is in conscious state or in an  unconscious state. But in depth rape is not only about sex. It’s about  wanting to hurt someone (sadism), about dominance or lust for power  (sadism) over some one. In any incident, it is one of the key factors,  and no one can deny as sadism is born instinct of men. Sadism doesn’t  strikes a person all of a sudden. It has a long history in childhood and  always originates in the desperate fantasies of a child.   When  this crosses the boundary and become a sexual disorder then rape takes  place. Remember, so many times rape can happen in legal and consent sex  also, but the only difference that it cannot be claimed.   Rape is  only possible when certain conditions get fulfilled. It can be compared  with fire which only exists when some criterion gets fulfilled. In rape;  no doubt that men are responsible, but girls too are also responsible  as being one of the condition. In this crime are they are the  provocative element, and provocation is subjective which vary from man  to man. They must decide themselves how to avoid being a cause of  provocation. To avoid any possible theft we lock our precious things in a  locker. Similarly, a precautionary measure must be taken to avoid rape.  You cannot change behaviour of every other person, but by correct  precautions you can definitely avoid the crime. Rape is a side product  of liberal and free living society. If an alien come on a visit, the  first thing it will observe that the whole planet is obsessed with sex.  Therefore for such a situation someone has suggested very truly that  “You save yourself or you remain unsaved.” read the full article on: http://factincept.com/rape-factors-behind.htm http://factincept.com/rape-psychology-india.htm

About police's role  #3  I agree police can't be at everyone's house and protests were against the bribe offered to the victim's parents and refusal to lodge the complain for rape. The parents were told to be happy to find their daughter alive and forget rape. Also after the FIR was filed, isn't it the duty of police to search for the missing person and if they did  try to search her , obviously , first place to be searched Femenism #2 Regarding going out at night:  Your parents will rarely stop you from going out after sunset. You just have to say "going out with friends", you don't have to specify where, why and most importantly how many girls and how many boys are there. But as far as I know, being a girl, I will be asked all these questions. Moreover if anything ever goes wrong, guys won't be asked what were they doing so late out (u won't be called rapist or scoundrel until and unless you try to be one of these), but girls will be asked what business do they do so late at night like you did (irrespective of she being (or trying to be)one or not). At the time of Delhi gangrape, there were many people asking wwhy was she roaming around withe her boyfriend so late. It was just 8:30 when they left for their homes and i don't think it's tooo late.   Coming to clothes, if you wear western clothes(jeans and trousers  are western) it's ok, but if girls do that, our so called respectful Indian culture comes into place. You = All the guys
