Should I include a link to my online portfolio in my resume?

Shall I include my web development portfolio link in my resume for a coding job?

  • I am a masters student going to apply for internships in few days to amazon, microsoft etc for coding jobs. I have done many web development projects in my undergrad and as a freelancer. I have a portfolio of my work and I am confused whether I should include my portfolio link in my resume or not.

    Absolutely include your portfolio. When I review resumes on recruiting trips the first thing I always look for is evidence of initiative and passion. A portfolio of any sort of independent work is a strong signal that a candidate actually enjoys what they do and can figure things out on their own. Most candidates have academic cred but not as many have cool projects to show off.

Showing your work when applying for a job will help set your application apart from other candidates. List out a few of the most relevant projects to the position your applying for in your resume. Write a short paragraph on your role on the project, what parts of the work you completed and the results of the work (i.e. X installs, Y new users). At the end of this, include a link to your live project, a blog post about it, an online portfolio entry, or a page with screenshots of the work. Making the link obvious will help out hiring managers like me who review resumes by scanning through an opening up projects. I'd also include a link to your portfolio right at the top of your resume.
