What are the good financial analyst companies?

How can I transition from a senior programmer analyst (IT) at a tech company to a business analyst role in strategy/operations in companies like Deloitte, Google, etc.?

  • I work as a IT senior analyst supporting the strategy department for a fortune 100 company in California. My current role gives me an opportunity to provide technical support and data analysis to the dept but I want to get out of IT and move towards the business side, as my long term plan is to get an MBA in a few years. How do I make this transition considering I have an IT background? I have 3 years of experience working with my current company. I am 26 and hold a masters degree in IT Management.

    Thanks for inviting me to answer. You've mentioned about your MBA plans. The additional qualification and skills would help you make a transition to the business side. However, there are risks that you need to be aware of. I'm not sure about your nationality, but there are too many technical folks heading to bschool in order to make a similar transition. You'd need to ask yourself why an employer would prefer you over them. In the next year or two if you can start getting involved in non-technical work, that'll help. It doesn't have to be a full-time role. If you can do that within the same company, that'll be the best. As long as you are able to pick up skills that your next employer will value, it's all good.
