  • Answer:

First ..RELAX...breathe in...breathe out ! "Forget the tensions in your life !" (momentarily) Now you are ready ! Do you want Civil Engineering to be route/path in your career or you just chose it because you had no other options? if(civil engg is your choice and not an accident) { Assumptions:You understand/comprehend whatever is taught/delivered in the class, and just don't CRAM/memorize everything. Since the teaching methodology is poor(as expected in state colleges) First Enrich your communication skills(as aptly said) be confident with 3-4 languages(learning new languages is a good option if you have time). Do you have recommendation letters from profs? Do you come in the good books of profs(IMPORTANT:they can recommend you to recruiters, send you for internships, etc) ?? Make a study group of like-minded people.Learn how to perform better among your peer group. The competitor should be your past and your present (very important)! (increase your productivity/mental agility...read books like "You Can Win" by Shiv Khera "Think and Grow Rich" by N. Hill) Solve puzzles/Sudoku ! "A rolling stone catches no moss !" So work had and TAX your brain ! LEAVE THE STRESS BEHIND ! You should have ONE GOAL...SELF IMPROVEMENT! Read @ Enhance your hard ans soft skills ! Increase your productivity...EVERYWHERE,everytime whether you are sleeping or studying (belimitless plugin on chrome can optimize your online time) MAKE FULL USE OF YOUR TIME ! Do you have a free wifi connection/LAN at your college?! Try out some MOOCS! Take part in college competitions/fests/quizes. Try NPTEL (@http://nptel.ac.in/(recommended for it's similarity to Indian college course plans...demerits:you'll understand when you try it out!)   Other online MOOC choices udacity/MIT-OCW courses (a more+better learning experience) } If engg was just supposed to be a brief halt in your career, prepare for IAS/MBA/etc other exams(this can have a negative impact on your college performance) And a myth-buster: Companies don't hire toppers ! They hire people with knowledge,IQ, and those who can manage/those who can be an asset to the company ! (You won't be asked to solve an IRODOV problem there :p You would be asked to apply your knowledge, rather than preach people on types of cement/materials,etc)

Thanks for the A2A.. My friend, i know ur future carrier is a very big question in your life! And i am writing this answer though all the imp things are covered in te above mentioned answers.. The one imp point i wnat to tell you is, that language will play a very imp role in determining your confidence as well as all formal interviews will want you to talk in english. Inorder to express what you know in the best possible way, you have to have a command over the language. Though your pointers do matter the most imp Part is your confidence! Ps: 7.9 is a good pointer dont worry have confidence on yourself. Best of luck !

What you have will not define what you can do. 7.9 is quite a decent score. Might bot be out of the world extraordinary but it sure puts you in the top 30% of engg students as per marks. So chill. Apply offline, give exams for PSUs, or govt jobs if you are interested in them. If you think you want to change lines, go for an MBA with ample time for coaching. Its not at all the end of the world for you. There are infinite possibilities if you can tap the resources. Best of luck.

Pointers aren't a very significant parameter for Campus Selection. With 7.9 pointer I guess you will be eligible to sit for most of the companies. Now after this whats more important is your preparation to crack these opportunities. So start by preparing a list of all expected companies going to visit you college. Refer to their selection process. Check their previous written tests and practice them. Indeed The most important thing that you need to work upon is English. Try to improve your command over this language, both verbaland written. Good Luck!

You should better start preparing for PSU's  and GATE. As i know for CIVIL even top colleges are not providing good placement, so i don't think so you gonna get campus from your college. Anyhow you might get some IT company, but that will not be good MNC's(but who knows), after working for 6 months there you will realise future is not here and ultimately you will try for core company that will be more tougher that time. So i will suggest start preparing for  core companies and GATE. You have ample of time.

Buddy gaps & supply hardly matters....maybe in some initial stages but after you get in job its your passion towards work & persona matters. Civil guys has always been a bright chance in the future. Never ever think that you are from middle class or anything like that.Think that you ll find the every possible ways to move your career ahead under any circumstances. You can do it because you are smarter than a million guys who appeared in exams but couldn't clear it. To hell with the job, just do your best & stay cool. life doesn't end here or under any circumstances it goes on & on. Thanks for A2A.
