What are the chances of recovery for patients suffering from a hemorrhagic stroke of the left side of the brain? By recovery, I am wondering how much of their motor, speech, and other skills they can recover?

And to what extent? I am looking for stories that show that substantial (if not full) recovery is possible and exists. In addition, what sort of treatments (medical & psychological), rehab facilities etc. did the patient need or have access to? Here's some more info - Large parenchymal haematoma is seen in the left parietal region. No obvious AVM, aneurysm is seen. Left ganglio-capsular - external or extreme capsule large haematoma with significant mass (9.7 x 4.6 cm in axial dimension) and midline shift to the right (1.1cm) with no parenchymal infarct or obstructive hydrocephalous. Focal tiny spec of haemorrhage in left caudo-thalamic and left thalamic region. No intraventricular extension of haematoma. Update: Recovering slowly but surely. Haematoma size reduced significantly. Can now walk without a stick. Right hand is still at zero power. Speech is limited to unclear monosyllables.

Answer:
Three variables to consider: Whether the infarct in anterior or posterior. The size of the infarct. Any co-morbidities which could influence prognosis. There is a fourth variable which can not be left out of the equation. Motivation and the desire to get better. As a therapist I see patients who improve in spite of poor prognosis.

As said, not really something that can be answered with any degree of certainty... To many variables, starting with the exact details about location, severity, etc. of the stroke. Then the question of what sort of care was given, and how soon after the stroke started... Probably the exact details of how the person's individual brain is "wired" Other medical conditions and general health may be a factor. How determined they are to work at recovery, and so on... Some folks may make a complete or nearly complete recovery, others won't, and it's hard to predict which any individual will be...
