How long does a copyright last?

How long does music copyright last on home recorded cassette tapes?

  • I've found some cassette tapes that I recorded off the radio in the early 1980's. Would I have the copyright police bash my door down if I decided to sell these, say on ...show more

  • Answer:

responses in no particular order 1. no-one is going to care (I doubt the record companies are scouring eBay for illegal recordings) 2. I don't think expiration of copyright makes your recordings any more legal than they were are the time. 3. If you can find anyone on the planet who will pay for someone's home recordings from the 80's, then go ahead..knock yourself out... 4. You are kidding, right? 5. I would guess it would be pretty hard to sell ORIGINAL tapes let alone knock-offs..

I doubt people would tell on you, if they want to buy the tapes then they have no problem with it.

Life of the author + 70 years, but no one is likely to care about tape recordings of radio stations.
