    You can also take courses in welding, electrician etc, then get into those fields and work your way up. I think the oil business is a great field to be in especially the way the U.S. is starting to produce more and more oil and gas. If Obama didn't hold it back there would be tons of jobs in that field.

You don't look for entry level jobs. Start targeting companies, such as Schlumberger. Look for any positions they have. They will send you to their own training programs, so that's not a problem. And no, they are not easy to get. You have to be patient. Sometimes it can take almost a year to even get a phone call. If you want an oil rig job, do something to set yourself apart. If you're willing to go offshore, look at getting a paramedic certification. Look at getting some experience working for an electrician or a mechanic. HVAC technicians can be easily retrained. You need something they can build on that peaks their interest.
