  • I'm in the US and will soon have my BSN and am interested in moving to the UK but the pay for nurses there seems very poor. I would like to continue my education. Here in the US ...show more

  • Answer:

I was an NP in the UK . The most I earned was £27,000 pa. Most nurses are employed by the NHS. There is NOT a nursing shortage in the UK, just a shortage of nursing posts. The only nursing role that is eligible for visa sponsorship is for experienced and qualified neo-natal practitioners. We don't have Physician's Assistants in the UK. To be able to work as an RN in the UK, or even call yourself one, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. http://www.nmc-uk.org/

Nurses in the Uk are notoriously low paid, which is why we have a shortage. Having a Masters will make no difference. UK

There is also an NP in the UK but salary is just between £13,409 - £45,858. There is also a PA and is paid between £16,806 - £36,022. Sadly, it's nowhere near what US nurses (regardless of level) earns.
