    No, the CMAA certification is not required to get a job like what you are describing. With the education and background you have, I would think that would be enough. Getting the CMAA won't hurt your chances of getting a job but my personal opinion is that its overkill.

If you had to do an internship or something of that nature, it would definitely help to network. Administrative assistant positions that are considered entry level may at minimum require a high school diploma, so you may be over qualified on paper to them with a BS in Healthcare Administration OR they may not hire you because they know you may not stay there that long. A "certification" isn't going to make you more of a candidate than someone who doesn't have this certification. You could also check out hospital systems online to see their career section, where you can see the qualifications they are seeking for administrative assistants.
