What are some examples of direct and indirect job interview questions?

I have a nursing job interview and one of the questions is about a time I bent the rules for a patient. Examples?

  • Answer:

That sounds potentially like a trap, i.e. to get you to admit to violating rules and policies so they can evaluate to what level your violation was and whether it would be a gamble to hire you. Personally, I would say that I have never violated any patient rules, that if a situation arose that was questionable, I consulted a supervisor.

Let's make it a safe one. Most companies are very strict about break rule. You must take a break when you are assigned. And of course if you don't get to take a break, technically they get in trouble. You can come up with an example like this. You were helping a patient who was being discharged. The patient transportation department didn't have anyone to help you to bring the patient to the front desk of the hospital where her husband was waiting in his car. You took the time to transport the patient in a wheelchair down to the first floor and safely sent her off in the car. When you came back to your floor, your manager said that you didn't take a break when you were supposed to.now the person after you is behind on her break, as well. You were supposed to take your lunch break ten minutes ago. Damned if you do, damned if you don't for this incident. There was no one else to bring her down. She was your patient. They knew you were leaving the floor. You broke the rule by not going to your lunch hour on time, and yet you were helping the patient. This is much safer to suggest then doing something else like giving her morphine when it was not prescribed because that will get you fired and you can lose your license. Best wishes
