What muscles does running improve?

I've asked questions in the past, some say it doesn't improve your abs, which I think is absolute bull- you're still moving them so you're technically training them. ...show more

Answer:
Kind of depends what sort of running you're talking about. Just steady, longer-distance "jogging" works pretty much the entire leg structure, of course, though only in a limited range of motion. The "core" is involved largely in keeping the body straight. There is not much work at all for the upper body... The arms are sort of along for the ride. Now sprinting is a different story.... Much higher level of effort, longer strides, heavy upper body involvement. That's because a different muscle/energy system is being used.
